expansion bay ใช้ต่อสำหรับเพิ่ม port ต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น USB Mouse Keyboard Port Lan Printer อะไรพวกนี้แหละครับ เป็น options เสริมเพื่อทำการขยาย port เพิ่ม
เอาไว้ต่อกับพวก Docking station หรือ port replicator เพื่อทำให้เรามี Port แบบอื่นๆเพิ่มขึ้นแล้วแต่ว่า docking station หรือ port replicator ตัวนั้นสามารถทำอะไรได้บ้าง

If you're looking at your computer from the rear, you'll see horizontal slots, your modem,(phone, DSL), maybe in one, while if you have a graphics card,(hooks to your monitor), it may be in one. Expansion bays are just that, the ability to expand your computer's capability's. Graphics card for better graphic's instead of the onboard one. Sound card for better audio, instead of the onboard audio, and so on. A personal media drive bay incorporates a removable drive that you keep your personal documents on. This drive is removable so that in case a virus is unwittingly downloaded to your PC, you have removed your personal info from harm,(HP).

Docking station คืออะไร

อุปกรณ์เสริมสำหรับการเชื่อมต่อกับ Notebook หรือ Laptop เพื่อเป็นการขยาย ports การใช้งานต่างๆ ทำให้สะดวกใน การทำงานมากขึ้น แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม Notebook บางรุ่ น ก็ไม่ได้ผลิตมาเพื่อรองรับกับ Docking Station เหมือนกัน

ความสามารถหลักๆ ของ Docking Station

• ส่วนใหญ่จะมี port USB มากขึ้น
• มี port ต่างๆ?ที่รองรับการเชื่อมต่อทุกประเภท
• ไม่จำเป็นต้องต่อสายโดยตรงเข้ากับ Notebook โดยตรง
• สะดวกในการเคลื่อนย้าย เพียงกดปุ่ม ก็สามารถยกเลิกการเชื่อ มต่อได้

Port Replicator

port replicator ก็คือปกติถ้าคุณซื้อ notebook แบบรุ่นเล็กๆเน้น นน. เบา เครื่องก็จะเล็กแล้วก็มันจะมีรูเสียบอุปกรณ์ต่างๆน้อยลงใช่ไหมครับ (ส่วนมากไอ้ที่หายไปก็มักจะพวก com 1 ,com 2 , port printer .......) ซึ่งในกรณีนี้ notebook พวกนี้เค้ามักจะมีช่องอยู่ล่างเครื่องเอาไว้เอาไว้เสียบกับแท่น (รูปร่างและรูปแบบแล้วแต่บริษัท และรุ่น) ซึ่งไอ้แท่นนี้ก็จะมีช่องต่อเพิ่มขึ้นให้มาครับ บางเจ้าก็เล่นแบบมีช่องเสียบการ์ด PCI ให้อีกต่างหาก
